A procedural approach to distributing responsibilities in R&D networks
نویسنده
چکیده
In professional settings, people often have diverse and competing conceptions of responsibility and of when it is fair to hold someone responsible. This may lead to undesirable gaps in the distribution of responsibilities. In this paper, a procedural model is developed for alleviating the tension between diverging responsibility conceptions. The model is based on the Rawlsian approach of wide reflective equilibrium and overlapping consensus. The model is applied to a technological project, which concerned the development of an in-house monitoring system based on ambient technology. The development of this innovative technology raised questions among the technological researchers about its social acceptance and the way issues related to privacy and security should be addressed. The case is analyzed in terms of two procedural norms (reflective learning and inclusiveness), which are based on literature on policy and innovation networks. Analysis of the case shows that, in a pluralist setting, a procedural approach can be useful for encouraging discussion on the legitimacy of different responsibility conceptions and the question what a fair responsibility distribution amounts to.

Introduction: Directly observed procedural skills (DOPS) is aunique method for assessment since it tests the trainee’s abilityto apply his knowledge and skills in performing a particularprocedure and provides an assessment of the practical workperformed by the trainee on a ‘real’ patient under supervisionof an experienced faculty. The study aims to make use of DOPSrating for assessment and furt...

Optimization and reduction of costs in management of distribution and transportation of commodity are one of the main goals of many organizations. Using suitable models in supply chain in order to increase efficiency and appropriate location for support centers in logistical networks is highly important for planners and managers. Graph modeling can be used to analyze these problems and many oth...

In knowledge-based economy, knowledge has a public good and non-rivalry nature. Firms build their own knowledge stock not only by means of internal R&D and collaboration with partners, but also by means of previously spilled over knowledge of other firms and public research laboratories (such as universities). Firms based on their absorptive capacity, and level of intra-industry and extra-indus...
متن کاملA Fast Approach to the Detection of All-Purpose Hubs in Complex Networks with Chemical Applications
A novel algorithm for the fast detection of hubs in chemical networks is presented. The algorithm identifies a set of nodes in the network as most significant, aimed to be the most effective points of distribution for fast, widespread coverage throughout the system. We show that our hubs have in general greater closeness centrality and betweenness centrality than vertices with maximal degree, w...
متن کاملAutomatic Discovery of Technology Networks for Industrial-Scale R&D IT Projects via Data Mining
Industrial-Scale R&D IT Projects depend on many sub-technologies which need to be understood and have their risks analysed before the project can begin for their success. When planning such an industrial-scale project, the list of technologies and the associations of these technologies with each other is often complex and form a network. Discovery of this network of technologies is time consumi...
